蒔絵とは漆で文様を描いた上に、金、銀粉などを蒔きつけたり塗面を粉で蒔いて金色などにする伝統工芸の技法。さらに漆や炭粉で高く盛り上げた文様の上に平蒔絵を施したものを高蒔絵という。

2.地 研 き（じとぎ）JITOGI
漆面を平らにし、漆の接着性を高める。Polish the
lacquered surface so that it becomes more applicable with lacquer. |

3.置 目（おきめ）OKIME
薄美濃紙の裏側から漆で輪郭線をたどりスケッチの図案を転写する。チタン紛を撒きつけスケッチ画を見えやすくする。Copy the design by tracing
the pattern with lacquer on the everse of the thin MINO-paper and attaching it.

4.漆上げ（うるしあげ）URUSHIAGE
置目された輪郭線を目安に、盛り上げたい部分に漆を塗る。
塗りが厚いと、つぎに炭粉を蒔いた時、ひび割れするので、適度な厚みに盛り上げる。Coat the design with
lacquer. When lacquer is applied too much, there might be some cracks on it. An appropriate thickness is needed. |

5.炭粉蒔き（すみこまき）SUMIKOMAKI
漆が乾かないうちに炭粉を蒔く。
炭粉が沈み込むので、くりかえし蒔き、盛り上げる。Scatter charcoal
powder while lacquer is wet. Do this several imes to obtain a certain thickness.
6.粉固め（ふんがため）FUNGATAME
乾燥後、漆を塗り込み、粉を堅固に固める。炭粉で盛り上げた部分の乾燥に、数日をかける。表面 だけ乾いて内側が乾いていないと、縮みや皺を生じる。After it becomes dry, coat
it with lacquer to make it solid. It will take a few days to be completely dry.
If not, it will cause some shrink or wrinkles on the surface. |

7.粗 研 ぎ(あらとぎ）ARATOGI
粉固めのあと表面を粗研ぎする。(Basic
polish) Polish the surface after finishing the FUNGATAME-process.
8.高 上 げ(1)(たかあげ）TAKAAGE(1)
再び漆をのせて、盛り上げ部分をなめらかに形成する。Coat with
lacquer to form the smooth surface.
9.中 研 き（なかとぎ）NAKATOGI
高上げのあと表面を研磨する。(Intermediate polish) Polish the surface after finishing the first TAKAAGE-process.
10.高上げ(2)TAKAAGE(2)
さらに盛り上げる。Coat with
lacquer again to swell the surface. |

11.上 研 き（うわとぎ）UWATOGI
前工程の表面を研磨する。(Fine polish)
Polish the surface after finishing the previous process.
12.高 上 げ(3)（たかあげ）TAKAAGE(3)
高上げ（1）（2）の工程を繰り返す。Repeat the TAKAAGE-process(1)&(2)
13.高上げ完了（たかあげかんりょう）Completion of TAKAAGE
高蒔絵下地の完成。Completion of the MAKIE-foundation. |
